Worthless wisdom was my very first attempt at creating an app for the Apple Watch

Design

The app in all of its glory is designed to be an app that gives helpful advice and motivates its users daily. This however is a facade, as the app itself is really a mocking parody, taking every possible opportunity to insult the user and the existence of apple watch apps in general.

This all starts with the icons themselves. The main logo is meant to be a play on the Hamsa Hand of Wisdom and balance, with an eye in the middle of the palm. To reflect the style and tone of Worthless Wisdom, The symbol was modified into a middle finger with a similar eye in its center, and its color scheme changed to monochromatic to relay the idea that the world is very straight forward or ‘black and white’.

The original logo design was actually a Question mark running up a middle finger. This was thrown out fairly quick in favor of the final design.

The Survey

The app starts you out with a very straight forward introduction to Worthless Wisdom, and what you can expect out of it. In order to move forward, the user is given what they’re told is a short survey, which slowly spirals into a 50 question exercise in patience and insanity, with questions becoming more and more irrelevant and nonsensical as time goes on. Upon trying to back track to an earlier question, the user will be sent back to the beginning and forced to restart.

This culminates in a final piece of frustration, upon learning that the quiz altered nothing, and in fact a secret skip button exists at the very beginning of the survey.

The Quotes

Upon finally reaching the central focus of Worthless Wisdom, the user is met with an assortment of filters, to specify exactly what sort of random piece of unhelpful wisdom the user would like to hear.

The full collection is exactly 90 quotes long, and takes up well over half of the apps data

The Lies

Throughout the app, users may stumble upon various extra screens that remind the user that the app itself is a cruel joke on anyone who downloads it, and that the developer is a liar and trickster. Still, one or two of them do offer some surface level, psychological commentary on the nature of choice and self reflection as a whole.

Then again, they could just be clever jokes at the expense of the audience

Programming

Worthless Wisdom was designed and programmed as a prototype in FigJam, as an introductory college assignment which far exceeded expectations.

The file is comprised of over 300 possible pages dependent on certain decisions the user makes
