Ollie the Waterfield Otter

Ollie was an attempt to make an adorably lovable otter mascot for the murray State University Waterfield Library

Early Sketch Work

Early designs for Ollie focused on nailing down an exact design concept for an adorable river otter, fitting equally between accurate anatomy and cartoonish appeal

Ollie in most iterations was given a very simple design, focused almost entirely on giving him a flexible and fluid design as if swimming through the air. Ultimately, the final iteration took lead direction, being a long, tube like body, more like a sausage than anything else, simple limbs and a large, goofy grin

Final

Ollie would be given a wide variety of designs so that he could be useful in his appearance all year round. A small tuft of hair was added to his head and chest, to keep him from looking like a flying sausage. A simple face was adapted to keep the focus on cuteness
